Clavicle Brace
This clavicle brace is designed for those with a clavicle (collar bone) injury. It pulls the wearer’s shoulders back and gives support as the injury heals. The manufacturer also claims that it is useful for suffers of fibromyalgia and those with shoulder instability.
Does it Work?
We do not have personal experience with this product but a review of the reports left by purchasers on internet sales sites such as Amazon, show that most users like the product. Common comments include, “it is supportive”, “I like the soft, comfortable material”, and “this is one of the better clavicle braces I have tried”.
What the Experts Say
There are two main types of clavicle braces commonly used. The first is the simple sling which immobilises one arm and (to a degree) one shoulder. The brace we are reviewing is the second type. It is usually called a “figure 8 brace” because of the shape it makes (see image to above).
The purpose of the brace is to hold the injured shoulder in alignment as the bone and muscles heal. If the clavicle itself is fractured, the injured person runs the risk of the bone mending in a way that leaves permanent misalignment.
This type of figure 8 brace is often worn after an injury for 6 – 8 weeks so the comfort and base design become very important. We have listed the key points in out “pros and cons” summary, but it does seem that users find this particular clavicle brace to be easy to wear in regard to comfort. This can not be said about all such braces. It is also important that the brace is unobtrusive under clothing, and again, this clavicle brace is reported to be well designed.
Weak Points?
The only consistent issue seems to be that it can be difficult to put on or remove by yourself. Many users have commented that they require another person to help, particularly when the brace is tightened effectively. Something to be mindful of.
Is This Clavicle Brace Right for You?
There are some advertising claims that this brace is useful as a posture corrector. We believe that there are better products for this purpose and any posture correcting benefits are minor. This is not to say it is harmful to posture, simply that it is primarily designed for injury support.
Price is commonly around $30 usd
